Gizmondoforums.com - Tutorial
Convert your DVD's into WMV file that will run on your Gizmondo

To start off you will need the following:
1. a DVD
2. a computer duh, windows based atm (sorry) with a dvd drive
3. ImTOO DVD ripper (http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-ripper.html)
4.Winavi 6 (http://www.winavi.com)
you may need to purchase these software programs as they have limitations to time or usage.
5.a crap load of hard drive space (trust me)

Disclaimer, most of todays DVDs have anti piracy laws stopping you from copying your dvds so please make sure you have permissin first and deffintly no distributing movies! BAD! this example is for testing purposes only i own the dvd but have deleted the files so no suing me lol.

Rite we are now ready to begin conversion, open up ImTOO DVD Ripper.

Here is the interface of imtoo its a decent interface and i hope its pretty easy to navigate
1. At the very top is the standard menu at this time were only interested in the settings menu, the input section basically navigates the chapters in the dvd
2. Shows the chapters of the dvd when active, this allows you to select/deselect chapters to be rippered.
3. on the first running imtoo basically shows what your supposed to do to start up, if you want and the format is avi in section5 then you could carry on. normally this is a preview screen.
4. To the right of the number 4 is the small control system you will use you will need the DVD button to select your dvd, vob for VCD (i think) and the record/stop button once you have selected something.
5. This is the output section
format: if it says anything else than AVI change it, output folder: pick where your file will go. volume size: you dont really need to worry at this stage as you will be altering the size in winavi but if you want the size altering then you can do it there.

rite now down to business we are going to check out the settings that our file is going to be made with.
go to the menu, settings > output settings.
then move to the next stage

or follow the infomation on section 3.

Here is the output settings all we need to cover here is the section at the top that has to be AVI as shown on the picture, the codec we are going to use should be already selected but it doesnt really matter at this time, aslong as winavi can read it later. there is also file size option on the right.

N ow we just copy what the preview screen did in the first part of this tutorial, click the DVD button on the controls and select where your dvd is located, the program will load your chapters, you may need to go to the top under input and change the index as there are film menus and crap you dont really want to rip.
now we select the chapters we want by ticking the boxes. dont forget to change your output folder to somewhere you will remember.

When we are done click the record button and watch the red progress bar crawl, this may take some time with large chapters but you can stop at any time and what you have recorded already will be exported to your given directory.

now that the avi file has been created we shall need to open our next program winavi.

its pretty easy to see what buttons to press, ill give you a hint, it has a orange ring on the picture ;)

when you click WMV you can select a single or multiple avi (or whatever, this progam coverts mov's and i think RM's too) they will be displayed at the top all you need to do now is to select an output folder, and check out the advanced menu.

the advanced menu is where we will be resizing the movie file you can reduce the quality (you wont see alot of degradation really) and most important is the picture size, gizmondo's res is 320 height by 240 width, this can reduce the file size even more so the gizmondo doesnt need to chop out or rezise a larger movie. now were ready to convert, press ok, then ok again to begin converting.

now wait....... you can see progress with the preview window but i really dont like watching movies repeatedly so i turn that off and leave the room.

here you can see our movie is reduced in size with a bit of tweaking you can get it down even more but now the .wmv can be sent to your gizmondo, enjoy
