The homebrew channel has been out on the Wii (hbc.hackmii.com) for quite a while now but I don't know whether to install it or not. I like the idea (region free loader, emulators on telly etc.) and I am able to install it (via twilight hack) easily but I am afraid of putting anything homebrew-ey on my Wii in case nintendo releases an update which either blocks my Wii from online play or bricks it altogether. It is far superior to my current method of launching homebrew (direct from the twilight hack) but is it worth the risks??

I've gotta agree, mario cart is just about the only good game online, but it gets old, weighing it up: dvd, emulatorss, homebrew vs. online play for like, 2 games?

install it. (only reason i havent done it to mine is because its my familys, so im not allowed screwv with it

i need myself a copy of zelda on the cheap. been putting it off for a while but that would be great to play region free/ backups *cough*
tbh i hate my wii bored of the games no online and dependancy of accessories that clutter my room if someone would offer me a good price on my clutter i would prolly take it, sadly the clutter would make postage a nightmare.

Yeah i did look at this a while back, but thought I have emulation on my Xbox anyway, plus with my upcoming Pandora unit its not worth the hassle, unless someone shows me a out of this world homebrew game i won't be bothering!

There are some online games, but Gecko OS (A.K.A Rregion free loader) doesn't load backups, only imports.

Yeah, I think its great, there are some online games, Mario Kart, Smash Bros Brawl, the MOH game etc.

You can play media off the SD card and DVD support is coming soon but only via homebrew software.

Another nice thing if you have a DS is the nintendo channel, it lets you download demos of games onto your ds via wifi.

Also I'd buy the internet channel.

You dont need a modchip for homebrew just a copy of zelda twilight princess and an SD card.

P.S If you have a Hi Def telly you will want to get the compnent cable, dont get the official one get one like this instead. It vastly improves picture quality.

You spend wii points via the shop channel which sells the virtual console games, wii channels and wii-ware, it is possible to pirate all of those but such things shall not be mentioned here wink.gif .

I heard USB keyboards work but don't know about mouse.

Wii points can be bought on the wii via credit card and last time i checked it was slightly cheaper that way.

The internet channel works just like a normal browser. The version of flash is the old one but there is still a website of flash games for the Wii (called wiicade I think). And youtube used to work last time i checked.

you have to patch the iso then burn the iso at 1x speed or max 2x speed

im using crappy 4.7gb dvd r- and it works ok just sometimes it crashes when restarting the menu

to be honest just getting it for zelda wasnt such a bad idea
zelda rockz biggrin.gif even more so now that i im using orchania cheat thingy biggrin.gif

inf heath and all that stuff W00 h00!

im gonna test more back ups soon like mario kart ect

i do belive there is compatability issues with some games though
ill try to find the list laterz

the worst that would happen is that an automatic update of sorts will teminate any homebrew activity
just like sony did with psp or a much wanted purchased game will force update

but the hackers are one step ahed and easily find methods around the patches

it was only like 8 days or sommit that they found a way to install the homebrew channel on the newst fw

the only way they will seeyou have it if you use ninty channels like shop and nintendo channel coz they
check stuff thats installed on the wii

but you dont need to use any of these again anyhoo as the wad manager can install these channels free lol cough... oops hehe whistle.gif

not that have used any of this ilegal stuff wink.gif
