Ok not clock stopping news here but enough to warrant you to stop and read this bit of news just in.
With the thoughts of the Gizmondo 1.5 swimming round the aspect of battery life is still a key objection. this however in an unsuspecting move has been addressed with this comment from Carl Freer. We know the Gizmondo's standard battery was no good hence the need for the premium battery but please read on. QUOTE We understand that there was an issue with the batteries in the original Gizmondo units. Frankly, they never worked very well. Part of this was due to the physical battery used, the other was the power management module in the OS. We now have a MUCH enhanced solution for the battery issue (including a new model battery) that we will be offering in the new Gizmondo units. Additionally, we will to offer a new battery to current Gizmondo owners as part of the upgrade process. This program will be available FREE OF CHARGE and will be a part of the relaunch. As I mentioned, we are committed to current owners and want to help enhance their experience along with draw new users to Gizmondo. Now to read that on first comment would be wow! Indeed great commitment to the early adopters and possibly very risky financially but if we read into this, there might be some form of exchange old batteries for new? What lies on the horizon for the Gizmondo surely must be big as this is merely a spec of what’s to come |

Hi All,
Wow, nice update/news Trev.... thanks for keeping us informed.... And Carl, if your reading this..... GREAT MOVE / COMMITMENT!!! This, as mentioned could be risky financial move.... on the other hand, it is super marketing. Looking after your current customers, that were abandoned like almost 2yrs ago, and now to get a FREE update. This is just another example of what a good aftersales company this was and is, as I heard about their Service Repairs on Gizmondo Units, and how effecient they were. Most batteries will be dead now anyway, or lacking life. To get boosted batteries will be great. I reckon, like Dell (ah, SPIT!! hate Dell) and their battery recall program, you send your old ones in, and get new ones in return... or if your a business partner (dont think that will work with Gizmondo) you keep your old battery and still get a new one. Does this apply to the premium batteries too, as they maybe faulty too...?? And are you saying current Gizmondo units will get a WinCE 6.0 update, as well as the OS module update to sort battery out...?? Although WinCE 6.0 may help in new apps (inc GPS apps), new is not always great. I've been working on WinCE 5.0 GPS porting, and it aint no where near as easy or fun as Giz WinCE 4.2 support. More runs on Giz than does on a dedicated GPS device.... MUCH MORE!!! - but thanks, AWESOME STUFF Carl..... Cheers, Lister |

It's not like there were a lot of customers first time around, so if Gizmondo 2.0 manages to take off, then it will be a drop in the ocean financially. But at the moment I'd put it in the same category as the free accessories that early adopters that paid full price on launch were supposed to get when they launched the Smart Ads version.

Less than 10,000 units were sold in total, a lot less. If somehow they do manage to get it up and into the public's cociousness, upgrading the batteries for the few people still holding a Gizmondo will not be much money. Ironically, the battery issue was just one more thing that we on the development side were saying needed work (specifically the battery management).....everyone knew it, but for some odd reason they still went ahead and released an Alpha product. Which basically shot down any chance we had at real long term success.....if they would have given us 6 more months to work out the kinks, we would be kicking the IPhones ARSE right now.... Instead.....well......you know. GSP |

I wonder if the upgraded Win CE (if it comes out for the old systems) will stop the hacked games from working. Not like there a lot of them but there are still a couple I like to show off to people that ask what the Gizmondo is! The graphics were not that bad considering the age of the system!
On the topic of replacement batteries... how can you tell if the battery we have now is the normal / standard one or the extended life version? I did not purchase the battery/Giz unit new. It was an Ebay purchase. |

as long as it has a gizmondo label im guessing they can identify it. but does it have the power output printed on the battery? might be able to get someone with the standard battery to compare the power wattage

Hi FrostyMoon,
Im not sure, and wondering this too.... although it maybe better to get the new WinCE, although WinCE 5 is RUBBISH!!!!! WinCE 6 might be better.... who knows. Im not sure how its going to work yet, as details are still waiting, but Carl did say he was going to make it OpenSource.... that said, that doesnt say how it will handle Gizmondo Software, and other peoples HomeBrew. I am wondering if the upgrade is not as good as what people are expecting, can we still use our ServicePack B Downgrader, and continue to use OUR ServicePacks....?? As for batteries, do you just mean.... Standard battery being slim, and at 1000mah, where as the premium extended batteries were chunckier and stuck out, and at a 1800mah..... I would like to know if this battery recall/upgrade program is just for standard batteries or premium ones too....? Cheers, Lister I wonder if the upgraded Win CE (if it comes out for the old systems) will stop the hacked games from working.
